4 Things to Consider When Selecting Your Real Estate Agent

When it comes to buying or selling a property, choosing the right Realtor®  is crucial. Not all real estate agents are realtors, and not all realtors are created equal.  Here are the top four things you should consider as you embark on your real estate journey and select your guide:

1. Market Knowledge: The real estate market is always changing, and a knowledgeable agent will have their finger on the pulse of the local market. They will know the latest trends, comparable sales, and market conditions, which can help you make informed decisions about buying or selling your property. They can also provide insights into the neighborhood, school district, and other factors that may affect your decision.
2. Communication: You want someone who is responsive, proactive, and easy to reach. It's essential that you feel comfortable asking questions and expressing concerns, so you need an agent who is an effective communicator. A good agent should be able to clearly explain the buying or selling process, provide timely updates on market trends, and be available to match your communication style and preferences.
3. Negotiation Skills: Negotiation is a key component of any real estate transaction, and an agent skilled in negotiation can mean the difference between getting the best deal or leaving money on the table. You want an agent who can effectively advocate for your interests and use their knowledge of the market to get you the best possible outcome.
4. Professional Network: A good real estate agent will have a network of professionals they can refer you to, such as home inspectors, contractors, and mortgage lenders. Having access to a  trusted network of professionals can make your buying or selling process smoother and less stressful.  Your realtor is also an excellent resource in the future for referrals as you get settled in the home and want to make updates or repairs.

Also, make sure to keep in mind that as mentioned, not all real estate agents are Realtors®.  Realtors® are members of the National Association of Realtors (NAR) as well as their local chapters, like Denver Metro Association of Realtors (DMAR).  Only those that have the Realtor® designation are held to the higher standards of NAR and its code of ethics.
